Murmuration Guide
“Murmuration” means flock.
Murmuration is a phenomenon that symbolizes unity.
A flight of birds filling the sky, executing a harmonious choreography
This synchronization is what we also wish for within the festival.
The strength of this event also lies in this incredible unity.
The Chant des Oiseaux Festival is an experience to be lived alone or with friends — a journey into new musical worlds, new sounds, new discoveries.
Beyond the music, and ever since our very first events, we have done everything we can to make this moment feel like a comforting bubble, far from the noise and chaos of everyday life. That is probably why you’ve also heard about Le Chant des Oiseaux.
This festival comes to life in the heart of nature, somewhere on the Causse Noir plateau. Somewhere the stars catch your eye like never before.
To put it simply: Le Chant des Oiseaux is a pause in our lives. An event that connects us.
And so, all our efforts will be meaningless if we do not act together to ensure that kindness and respect remain our guiding values.
There will be zero tolerance and no excuses for discriminatory, racist, sexist, homophobic, fatphobic, or hateful behavior of any kind. The same applies to harassment. Staring is not okay. Inappropriate gestures are not okay. If someone says no… it means no.
We are committed to making sure everyone feels safe and welcome. This spirit of care also applies to the members of our team. The festival relies on a large group of volunteers, technicians, vendors, and many others who are here to make the event run smoothly. Please think of their well-being, and remain respectful at all times.
This also applies — without exception and with the same rigor — to the artists. By coming to Le Chant des Oiseaux, artists share their vision of music and are here to create an experience for you.
Respect their work, and save long conversations for the chill areas. On the dancefloor, we express ourselves through movement, and we listen to the music being played.
Look out for yourself and for others:
The excitement of events like this can sometimes lead you or the people around you into moments of intoxication or excess. It’s important to keep a sense of balance — for yourself, but also by paying attention to what’s happening around you.
If you notice someone feeling unwell, don’t hesitate to offer help and to alert members of the organization if you feel the situation is getting out of hand. The event will be even safer if this kind of care becomes second nature for everyone.
Food & hydration:
Remember to eat, and of course to stay hydrated regularly. A festival is a real marathon — if you want to make it through the whole journey, this is essential. You’ll enjoy it much more if you also take time to rest. Don’t leave all your feathers on the dancefloor.
Protect your ears:
Prolonged exposure to loud sound can cause serious and sometimes irreversible damage to your hearing. To protect your ears, make sure to take breaks away from the dancefloor and avoid standing too close to the sound system. Earplugs will be available — take care of yourself!
Drug awareness:
Drug use is strictly prohibited. Whatever the form, substances are never without risk, and it’s important that everyone remains aware of this. We are all responsible, whatever happens. Take care of yourself.
Cigarettes & cigarette butts: zero tolerance
The forest welcoming us is precious. Here, a cigarette butt is not a small detail: it’s long-lasting pollution and a huge fire hazard!
We no longer have any patience for those who throw their cigarette butts on the ground. A single butt can take up to two years to decompose, and during that time it contaminates the soil, the water, and the entire surrounding ecosystem.
For 9 editions, we have been handing out pocket ashtrays so that everyone can smoke without leaving a trace, so
Always keep it with you.
Pick up any cigarette butts you come across, even if they aren’t yours.
Waste: Leave No Trace
Le Chant des Oiseaux takes place in the heart of nature, in a fragile space that welcomes us for just a few days.
Here, the rule is simple: no waste should end up on the ground or be left anywhere on site.
We ask you to sort your trash carefully throughout the festival and to use the collection points provided.
Sorting is essential to reduce our impact and to protect this unique place.
Please follow the indicated waste streams:
- packaging (plastic / metal / cardboard)
- glass
- household waste
A festival in the forest is only possible under one condition: that everyone does their part, all the way through.
Pick up your waste, sort it properly, and if you see something on the ground — pick it up.
Water: No Waste
In summer, water is a precious resource — especially in the Cévennes.
We ask you to use it responsibly and mindfully.
Showers should be kept short, and any unnecessary waste must be avoided.
Every small action matters at the scale of an event like this.
We also recommend using gentle, biodegradable products in order to protect the soil and the surrounding environment of the site.
Fire: Absolute Vigilance
Fire is one of the greatest risks in natural environments, especially in the middle of summer.
For this reason, it is strictly forbidden to light any fire anywhere on site.
This includes:
- campfires
- candles
- unauthorized stoves
- poorly extinguished cigarette butts
If you see someone lighting a fire or throwing a cigarette butt on the ground, do not hesitate to intervene or immediately inform the team.
Water reserves and fire extinguishers are distributed across the site — locate them as soon as you arrive.
A fire outbreak would put the forest, the festival, and everyone present in danger.
Glass: Strictly Forbidden on Site
For safety reasons, bringing any glass onto the site is strictly prohibited.
A broken bottle — even by accident — can become a serious hazard. In grass, sand, along pathways, or on the dancefloors, a shard can quickly become invisible… and injuries can be severe, especially for those walking or dancing barefoot.
For your water and drinks, please use reusable containers — but never glass (stainless steel bottles, durable plastic, etc.).
Compost Toilets: An Ecological Choice
We have always used compost toilets at the festival, offering an environmentally friendly and sustainable solution for managing human waste.
Through a natural composting process, these toilets transform waste into organic matter that can later be used as fertilizer, helping to enrich the soil.
This alternative respects the environment and reduces the festival’s ecological footprint.
Commitments & Actions
The festival team does everything possible to minimize the environmental impact of this event.
There is a true commitment to protecting the wildlife and plant life of this beautiful place.
We are only passing through, and we want the land to continue living after we leave, untouched and unharmed by our presence.
That is why we are committed to reducing waste as much as possible, following a strict sorting policy, and leaving absolutely nothing behind when we depart.
Bye-bye Plastic
We have replaced plastic bottles with kegs (sparkling water, ginger beer, lemonade, and cola), saving more than 1,000 bottles per edition.
We do not sell bottled water at the bar — instead, we provide free drinking water across the site.
So bring your reusable bottle, and most importantly, don’t forget to take it back home with you!
On the food side, we have also eliminated all single-use tableware, replacing it with real reusable dishes.
